Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and creative Drama Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching drama to students at K-8, fostering an appreciation for theater arts, and helping students develop performance, communication, and creative thinking skills. This role involves planning, organizing, and delivering engaging lessons, directing school productions, and nurturing the talents of our students.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive drama curriculum that aligns with school goals and educational standards.
  • Teach students various aspects of drama including acting, stagecraft, voice, movement, improvisation, and script analysis.
  • Foster a safe and supportive classroom environment that encourages creativity, self-expression, and teamwork.
  • Organize and direct school plays, musicals, and other performances, including rehearsals and set design.
  • Evaluate and assess students’ progress, providing constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Create lesson plans and instructional materials, ensuring that content is both challenging and engaging for students of different abilities.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and departments to incorporate drama into cross-curricular projects.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and a positive learning environment.
  • Stay updated on new trends in drama education and theater production.
  • Assist in organizing drama-related extracurricular activities, such as drama clubs or theater field trips.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Drama, Theater Arts, Education, or a related field (Master's degree plus).
  • Previous teaching experience in a drama or theater arts setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of various drama techniques, performance styles, and theater history.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with students of various ages and skill levels, fostering a love for the performing arts.
  • Passion for teaching and inspiring young people through the arts.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure, especially during performance seasons.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience directing stage productions and coordinating live performances.
  • Knowledge of technical theater (lighting, sound, costume design).
  • Familiarity with theater-related software (e.g., scheduling tools, scriptwriting programs).
  • Certification in teaching or arts education is a plus.
